the way people talk about """"building community"""" feels so weirdly like. abstract? artificial? alienating? idk. i see those posts and have an immediate reflexive feeling of "this could only be done by some entirely other kind of person with whom i share no skills or interpersonal approaches" and it takes me a while after that to remember that i organized a union

why not simply seal nicol bolas and the eldrazi and the phyrexians all together in an arena. it can be like a petri dish and we can crack it open in a secured lab in 10,000 years to see who won

I often hear people say stuff like "Some cards are bad because there have to be bad cards for there to be good cards!" There shouldn't be good cards, actually. None of the cards should be good. I think the game would be a lot more fun without good cards. Bad cards can stay tho they're funny

This is a dumb idea I had but I had to make sure it didn't exist yet: a deck-building game, a la YGO or MTG, but before match starts both decks are combined into one that both players can pull from.
That's more or less the idea behind Studio Foglio's old pornographic TCG Xxxenophile. Each player has their own separate deck from which they draw their hand, but the cards are played into a common field where any player can activate any card on their turn. Since the game's mechanics revolve around big goofy chain reactions of cards activating other cards, a big part of the strategy involves deliberately including bad cards in your own deck in order to trick or force your opponent into activating them. Few other TCGs emulated it, largely because the framework of play made ensuring that everybody got back the same cards they started with at the end of the night a huge pain in the ass (this was before personalised card sleeves were readily available).

I always avoided using references, but couldn't point out what exactly made me avoid it. I have finally realized that due to being unfortunate enough to be surrounded by people boldly claiming "real artists draw everything from imagination without any references" [now i know it's bullshit] in my early years of artistic journey, I developed fear of being too dependent on references and fear of being completely unable to draw anything good without "copying". Any ideas how to overcome that fear?
It's not something I hear at all in professional spaces. We've straight up traced weird angles of our arms before. I use lots of references. You will naturally get better at drawing intuitively with the more references you use since we learn by example. I draw intuitively much more accurately than I did many years ago, but I still use references because my idea of a polished drawing is a moving goalpost.
Jason Rainville is one of the best of the best, paints MTG cards and he often posts his references. You can see how closely they mirror the final image:
Tumblr media
If you want to get good at art, you have to look at things and that's all it boils down to. Those who say it's bad to use references are either 1) never getting good at art, or 2) are insecure and are posturing in front of other artists. Hope this helps!

- lifelink, flying, and menace now stack
- protection now prevents exile, but not destroy
- shroud still prevents you and your opponents from targeting it, but your teammate can now target it
bizarre rules updates that would make mtg ~4% worse
- playing a land is no longer a special action, and can now be responded to
- new keyword on, like, 15% of the rares next set that makes it so you cant search or shuffle your library
- errata all instances of "cycling" to "swampcycling"
- unerrata "interrupts = instants"
- will of the council uses the electoral college system. somehow.

whats some dungeons meshi headcanons u got? owo? i totally believe Laois would be furry and into legos Cx
also i really enjoyed ur Ao3 fanfic about Laios x reader :D!!! I really agree with the way you write him :3
THANK UUU omg. I am gonna start with Laios because I have such a clear version of how he is in my head. I have nsfw hcs too but I’ll include them in a separate post if you want! These will just be sfw and more modern au geared
Laios is 100% a furry I…can’t even deny. he definitely sees himself as some like super cool timber wolf with icy blue eyes and platinum fur (or wolf/hunting dog mix) but everyone thinks he should be a Samoyed or something
he has multiple fursonas tho. one of “that” monster. maybe a dragon sona. he’s made up his own species to. may adopt sonas/species from artists he likes. yeah he’s a furry community veteran.
i never considered legos n Laios but. You’re so right. I think he’s more interested in the more complex nature setups or fandom ones. There’s definitely a half finished setup in his room at any given time (he gets super hyper focused on finishing them for like. a few days then kinda forgets until the next random fixation.)
he definitely has a dog that’s like. his best friend. he spends a ridiculous amount of time at the pet store or dog park or hiking w it
is a local game store REGULAR. he enjoys a lot of tabletop gaming like mtg, dnd, pokemon, and even digimon but in my mind he SLAYS at wingspan in particular. He has all of the extras and stuff. he has a group he loosely calls his buddies there that play with him time to time
not a huge video game fan though? I think he likes stuff like monster hunter and LoZ but like? I’m really unsure what else he’d be into. like yeah he likes monsters but like. he needs a specific genre….strategy based games are probably more his style. he may get into competitive pokemon tbh
no sense of style. Not in like a bad fashion way but like he just dresses extremely plain. Like he wears the most basic ass white boy clothes it’s ridiculous. He has a collection of silly t-shirts but that’s about as exciting as it gets. he believes socks and sandals go together. but somehow his hiking gear and jacket game is top notch. literally looks like ducks unlimited poster boy.
he grew up middle class but in a rural area. so he has manners and such but he’s kinda sheltered?? a little naive too but…he just has a big heart. He’s someone who believes in doing good even if like. There’s a chance you’re getting scammed.
ok that’s all the ideas I have now for gen hcs but tysm for the ask

PSA for MtG fans on here: you will not get Mark Rosewater to say that Universes Beyond is a bad idea. You just won't.

I- that sounds really nice actually, is there any way I could repay you for it? I don't really have that much money to offer but i could probably copy some stuff for you? though if theres anything else i can provide i'll def do my best to do so!! ^^
you know, I may be "unqualified to teach" or "too chaotic", "not good enough at talking" or whatever but I'm considering doing something a bit more under the radar, I recently found an entrance to some sort of secret access tunnel? It lets me walk between different places on campus without running into anyone. So if i find a big enough open space in there I could use that as a "classroom" of sorts and give lessons in secrecy to whoever wants to learn more.

Here's a question
Why do I like dying so much?
That's not a joke or anything. On paper, I do prefer when games feel more... lethal. Death is common, you should get your skull slammed in, every bullet should hurt a lot, because that's what happens in real life. Dying is great, because it makes you prioritize not dying, which makes you make more interesting decisions.
In practice? I don't like dying. Because dying, historically, has always been bad. In video games, which were and still are a big part of me, dying (especially in a game that my console was not equipped to run, like Cyberpunk) meant a long time not playing the game. It also meant a full reset, which means my carefully laid plans would also be reset, which mean I'd have to do everything again.
Whether it was Destiny (or d2. they still both suck) or Overwatch or even Minecraft (after I had built my base far, far away from spawn), death meant a long walk. Which, to me, was not playing the game. In tabletop terms, dying meant rolling up another character with completely different story, stats, possibly abilities. It also means your GM gets to erase all the planning they've done for the character and replace it with this one.
So, million dollar question-- how do we reconcile this? I'm trying to build a game (TTRPG) that's lethal as hell where every shot can kill you. What I don't want every death is a ten minute break from playing the game where I have to open the pdf for the game and scribble all of it onto my character sheet. Couple ideas:
Buddy Revive: After you hit 0 HP, you spend a round in the ground, time you can take to write new or old stuff on your character sheet. then, you get to come back to life next to an ally and take your turn.
Simple Character Sheet: Nearly the same level of simplicity as a MtG card. Everyone's dying in one hit so no need for an HP track. You get one item, a weapon, and. i dunno, maybe 2 perks.
Predraft Character Sheet: This one's a maybe. I dunno if I wanna make someone write 3 separate character sheets for a single character for each time they die, but it could prove quite interesting if their arsenal is limited in that way. The basic idea is, you make multiple character sheets and everytime you die, you throw that one away. When you respawn, you use another one. Frankly, seems kinda wasteful.
but. just noodling about. i'll probably occam's razor my way down to one that makes me feel the best.

That comic at the time was a complete overblown satire- and even then the mere idea of selling out MTG for other IPs that just had started at that point and was fairly harmless was enough to make me drop everything of that hobby for good despite being essentially obsessed with it at the time. The vibes had just turned bad. Now, let's fast-forward to the present day:
Tumblr media
Despite not having played a game of Magic for years, and just acting as an outsider now, a little part of me that I did not even knew still existed until today just died seeing this.

I know "everything is kicker" is meme and there are various explanations around for why other keywords are used anyway, but also
Spree is the least kicker "everything is kicker" mechanic. It's not optional!
so did wizards just like. flat run out of new mechanics or like. what's going on with thunder junction and all the keywords being reheated lasagna.
